Inspiring, amazing, renowned jazz trumpeter, composer, educator, and bandleader Terell Stafford has chosen the P. Mauriat PMT-700 unlacquered trumpet as his horn of choice. Terell joins artists Ralph Alessi and John McNeil as an early advocate of the new trumpet line. “The horn is warm and extremely centered with brilliance when needed,” he says. “It’s even in all registers making any musical situation a complete joy.”
Hailed as “one of the great players of our time” by pianist McCoy Tyner, Stafford’s versatility has led him to become one of the most admired trumpeters in music. Stafford’s music continues to grow as a bandleader with the release of his sixth album in 2011 entitled This Side of Strayhorn, produced by Grammy-winning composer bassist and composer John Clayton.
“Terell Stafford performs with an energetic character and profound lyricism,” says Adam MacBlane, P. Mauriat trumpet line manager. “He could make any bits of tubing sing with ease. That he is making his wonderful music with a P. Mauriat trumpet is nothing less than an honor.”
Stafford is a member of the Grammy award winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, performing Mondays at the Village Vanguard. He is also a member of the Grammy nominated Clayton Brothers Quintet, the Frank Wess Quintet, and drummer Matt Wilson’s project “Arts and Crafts.”
A gifted educator, Stafford is the Director of Jazz Studies and Chair of Instrumental Studies at Temple University in Philadelphia where he is a Laura H. Carnell Professor of Music. He is also a clinician for the prestigious Vail Foundation in Colorado and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Program.
