ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – St. Louis Music orchestral division has upgraded its entry-level cello, the Sebastian 153S. The result is an affordable instrument with remarkable playability and a fantastic aesthetic.
“Two and a half years went into the specification and development of the 153S Sebastian cello,” Says Jim Eaton, Orchestral VP for St. Louis Music. “Components had to measure up to educational standards. One of the most basic of these is the ebony used for the fingerboard. This had to be of sufficient quality to be shaped correctly and permanently.”
Imported by Knilling, the Sebastian model 153S cello also features well fitted, quality ebony pegs, and a carbon tailpiece with four integral string adjusters to facilitate tuning. The cello has a fully laminated construction with flamed maple veneer on the back and sides and distinctly grained spruce on the top. These features and the cello’s polished finish make the model particularly beautiful.
“Like adults, young people choose with their eyes first,” Eaton continues. “This cello is designed to please from the first sight, and the finish is formulated to last for years in the rental/lease pool with easy cleanup.”
The Sebastian 153S cello is available in 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4,1/8 and 1/10sizes, and comes standard with a soft cover and a Brazilwood bow. It is also available with a Knilling Custom Shop adjustment with individualized components. MSRP: $995.00
